Brand New Sisters ~ Raleigh Children’s Photographer

December 8, 2010

Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, you’ve already met these two brand new sisters in previous blog posts. But I’m posting more from their session because A) I’m madly in love with these two, and B) I’d like to take a moment to celebrate the newest sisters I know.  Big Sister R and Baby Sister A are very very new to this whole sister gig, but I think they’re already on the right track for a life-long friendship.

Big sister is loving, sweet, and mostly interested in helping with her baby sister, while baby sister is patient, easygoing, and really quite remarkably tolerant of the inadvertant pokes and prods from big sister.  I look forward to seeing these sisters grow together!

Too Sweet for Words ~ Raleigh Newborn Photographer

December 2, 2010

Stunned.  I am positively stunned.  Even at the tender young age of 14 days old, Miss A knocked my socks off with her sweetness.  Sleepy yet alert, snuggly yet engaged, she’s an absolute charmer. Thank you for spending time with me, little one!

Welcome to the world, baby girl!

Just over one year ago, our (extended) family had a new addition.  My dear cousin had a baby girl, C, who made it a full house of great-grandchildren (three boys, two girls) for our grandparents.  C’s first year of life has been so busy and eventful and a little bit noisy (wink), and it’s hard to believe that this sleepy little infant in this photo is the same sweetheart now bopping around her world with a fistful of Goldfish crackers.

Happy first birthday, C!

I Heart Surprised Faces ~ Raleigh Newborn Photographer

August 9, 2010

This week’s theme over at I Heart Faces is SURPRISE! And while I had lots of possible contenders in mind from recent client sessions, nothing but NOTHING can top the look of surprise on my son’s face that I captured when he (and his brother) were a month old.  You’ll have to get past the technical failings of this photo and enjoy the moment.  Have you ever seen such a look of total surprise on a nearly-newborn’s face as when his brother’s arm flailed just right and popped that paci out of his mouth?

He was NOT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL.  Not one bit.

I so heart these faces.

I’ve been positively buried in nostalgia lately.  Our twin boys turned six years old (!!) this past week, and we’ve been reminiscing our heads off around here.

I’ve especially been reminded of how indescribably important it can be to have photos to jog your memories…but not just any photos, not just snapshots, but really great photographs that capture the spirit of the moment and can trigger previously forgotten senses. Things like those little noises they make while nursing, all that wonderful baby chub of their legs and arms and even hands, how perfectly perfect it felt to cradle them in your arms as they drifted off to sleep.

It turns out our boys are rather like the cobblers’ children and are seriously lacking in Good Photos of themselves as newborns, something I honestly may never get over and will spend the rest of my days regretting.  That said, somehow, by the Grace of God, I was lucky enough to get this one noisy, grainy, poorly-lit but otherwise exactly what I wanted snapshot of the boys in the hospital, on their first day of life (perhaps even the first 12 hours of life).

Raleigh Newborn PhotographyThey are significantly larger now, but they’re just as noisy and good at making messes today. And we love them just as much as we did the second we first met them.

Maybe you remember meeting the Family of Almost Four earlier in the spring? Well, the fourth member of their family has arrived!  I was lucky enough to get to meet the new addition, Miss O, at only five days old.  What a sweetie she is, all curious and bright and looking around.

Lucky for us, Big brother A took a little time out of his busy schedule (kicking a soccer ball in the backyard) to visit with us for a moment.

Welcome to the world, little Miss O!

Y’all may remember first meeting little Miss P when she was just three days old, and I peeked in on her at the hospital.  Well, we had another get-together now that she’s home with her family.  Her big brothers J and H even joined us for a bit!

Miss P was only a little sleepy but really was quite entranced by some bright lights outside the window.

Raleigh Newborn PhotographerThanks again for having me by and…welcome to the world, babygirl!

Last week, I was lucky enough to get to meet (and photograph) Miss P on her third day of life.  Miss P and her mama were still in the hospital, resting up before heading home to a houseful of menfolk (Daddy and two big brothers), and we had ourselves a great time right there in the hospital room. She’s a little cutiepie, a great eater, and blessed with both lovely hair and a lovely personality.

We’re all looking forward to getting together again soon for another session — next time, maybe we’ll let the boys get in front of the camera a few times, too.  MAYBE. ;)

Welcome to the world, Miss P!
